Very nice!

Wow, this is fairly large scale for NG, in length and effort I mean. Very nicely done!

Since I'm still listening to my first run of it now, I'll start my review where I am about.

Near the end took me completely off guard, it was like a whole new style of music starting in...8 something, and then in the low 10's...that pooor ...celloist? that hast to play those 16th note runs at the end, lol.

In the 4's it sounded almost miniacal, and eeeeviiil (super villain voice) sounding, (especially because of that tempo change which added alot to it), like somone was going to take over the world...by force *Dr. Evil pinkie*.

Ooook, anyway, at about 1 minute is one of my favorite sequences in the song (except from about 9:45 on, that pretty much rocks). BUT this part I just found amazing all the way until about 1:50 where it gets even MORE interesting and then sounds like its slowing down, but adds a nice little sweet melody, before starting the EVIIIL part.

As for the C minor, yeah I know winter loves that, but I'm more of a D minor fan (ever since I first heard Pachbell's canon in D MINOR).

Keep it up man!
~TheWisestMagi~

P.S. I wish i could remember more spots in the song that I made mental notes of, but it was so long I forgot some of them to talk about D: (sorry ;D)

MusicalRocky responds:

Yeah man NG doesn't see too many 30-minute works lol. It did take a lot of effort, no lie : )

After C and the cadenza, the new A does have a few differences in order to seem more like getting closer to a resolution, and also to lead into C major instead of G major (which makes this sonata-rondo). You mean cellist :P but yeah the coda is a little hard on the poor thing.

The 4's, as you call them, is probably my fave part of the piece, as well as one of my best themes ever, if I do say so myself (and I do). : D But yeah I agree about the evil, definitely some of that. Haha Dr. Evil : P

The one minute mark! That's my supahero theme : D "Eroica." I like that a lot.

Actually if you want the full story that the concerto represents, I'll gladly tell you, just pm meh!

I don't know about slowing down, but it certainly does have a slightly different tone with the variation of the theme presented by cello : D And then malvagita again (evil) yay.

Yeah Winter does like the C minor parts, though the F minor part is his favorite in here ;)

Idk about Canon in D minor. Pachelbel's is in D major, but still. D minor is awesomer than C minor haha.

Thanks for reviewing man, and don't worry about not remembering everything, 'tis long.

Fantabulo-scrumtuous

Being described as "fantabulo-scrumtuous" is considered quite an honor in the culture of the magi ;).

Anyway, of course you should make a third...duh, cause I can't get enough of the last two, even though the first one is so darn short :P.

At any rate, I like how you introduce the old melody in the beginning, and bring it in throughout the song, yet make it a different song..I say (you are already planning it I know it) no matter what throw in the melody at some point of each chinese dance machine, even if the entire song's melody is different ; P.

F-777 responds:

Lol thanks. Ya im making a lot of plans for number 3! I will be sure to pm you when its finished =D.

Eeeeeeeek

I love you maestro...=P

OH! Almost forgot, you too LadyArsenic, I love your collabs guys..

This song is FANTASITIC....and since it just looped I'd like to say right here that the beginning serves just as well as an end as it did a beginning...actually, this loops wonderfully!

Make up: VERY dramatic strings used here, it made the song very exciting, I often felt myself starting to swing my arms around as if I had a weapon slashing at some beast...The vocals were also exceptional..but at times in the beginning (when the vocals were short and ending abruptly) I felt like they were a little akwardly mastered >.<, they sounded good but were a little overpowering at times to me..just an opinion.

Imagery: Wow, it sounds so...tormented, and is a bit scary O_o..are you guys still alive over there?
As the song opens we are looking sympathetically at a wounded soul, mouring on the ground for a purpose we are unaware of.. Initially we are competely compassionate to the soul, and are compelled to go forth and comfort it...but suddenly it starts growing angry, and starts crying it outrage, and we are taken aback..almost fearful of it..Then as it looks skyward and shakes in pain we realise that it merely crys with pain, not anger...but possibly anger towards sources of pain which are unchangeble...
Later, as were observe the poor bride, she starts to look straight in front of herself, and surprisingly keeps a steady volume and tone, emotionally droning if you will...
Finally, she stands, turns around, and looks us straight in the eye...we are taken aback, and ashamed for having watched her...but she simply stares us in the eye, telling her story through an invisible mode of communication we call compassion..and with that she fades away, forever tormented....

This is what I got out of it..sadly I had to force myself not to edit out "forever tormented"...I feel sorry for her..but the song does not tell consolation to me D: WHY MAESTROOO WHYYYY!?!

Anyway, glad I got to "talk" to you again..

Sincerely,
~TheWisestMagi~

MaestroRage responds:

I hear openly confessing your love via review gets you +5 points of awesome. But the "=P", add +5 points of Jestery, which cancels it all out. Too bad Magi, I thought for a second you were awesome :(

oooooooh, burn :D, I went there, I chartered that territory, here have a map!

There is definitely concerns with the mastering of the voice, that is entirely my fault, will be fixed in roughly an hour. Exporting new version as we speak.

We're not alive, we're totally speaking from beyond the grave, thanks to our state of the art iCross which lets us totally bust out physical properties from spiritual areas.

A brilliantly written description my good sir. You have taken the story from a 3rd party perspective, and to be honest, I have never considered that for this story. It provides an interesting layer thats for sure...

I'm glad you didn't edit forever tormented. It's true :)

As for consolation. The spirit who doesn't seek consolation, cannot speak it. Next halloween time, I will likely tell the story of the reasons behind her suffering. Why the man was never able to show. So many possibilities for that.

Glad you could drop by Magi, thank you for the review, we're glad you liked it!

Very nice *makes "OK" sign with fingers*

I guess this would be considered goth...although iw ould prefer to classify it in classical, it's really hard to put your finger on a genre on a well integrated song ^^ (compliment *COUGH*).

Well done piano playing, beautiful transitions really and a nice occasional minor fluctuation in the tempo, or maybe a sympathetic pause here and there..very good emotional playing!

The lyrics were fantastic and your title couldn't have gone better with it..I mean they were just so..touching "...a burden to himself.."

So good...and so often true eh? I mean, no one else can ever be a burden to you, it is your choice to allow them to be a burden to you, and therefore is it not that you are your own burden in any situation?
I would like to think so, for then we could simply disragard things as burdens right?
Once again, I would like to think so, but fulfillment is not that easy to come by ; )...and what else is life worht living for if you can't reach a purpose, and a purpose can not be reached without burdens...so alas we are constantly stuck being our own burdens...

That's what i got out of it at least..maybe it's what you had in mind? Anyway...thanks.

Sincerely,
~TheWisestMagi~

hania responds:

I think that everyone has a choice in how they view this world. No one has some little person sitting inside their head, pushing the 'be-sad' button - it's their own choice to be sad around circumstances in their lives. Unfortunately, most people find it easier to be sad then to open their eyes, see the possibility of tomorrow and be happy. It's a lot harder to cheer up then it is to become sad - it's the excuse many use to not allow their lives to thrive.

The song also touches on various topics that could lead to suicide - eg. keeping silent about their pain, feeling alone... "Softly stirring silence" to me, this means - gently killing yourself from within by constantly thinking about what is wrong with your life and not doing anything to change.

The last verse - I try and explain how one does make the choice to kill themselves by jumping off a building - "softly falling silence, nothing to hold onto quickly try to turn around..." and yet, they realise that it's the wrong choice and try to live - however, "they reach the ground... safe and sound" portrays them hitting the ground and dieing - safe from themselves.

(it's so sad) :(
My heart goes out to all who have tried or thought of killing themselves - I wish that you see that life has more to offer and stop being a burden to yourself.

You mentioned that no one can be a burden to anyone else - I don't quite agree with this statement - as people do inflict pain and conflict onto others and can make it harder for one to see the bright side of life - and while it IS a burden you put on yourself as you choose to be affected, sometimes it's best to express your pain so others can help you - we are just humans after all.

Interesting...

This is VERY cool in my opinion, and yeah..infrasound right? I think whales or something use that...I mean even when you hear the whales in a documentry the parts you can hear do not sound unlike some of the part in this...

I have a question for you though...how did you find the frequency/pitch to create the infasound effect? I would really like to know..this all seems incredibly interesting to me...I love to find out ways music effects your subconcious, and this is a perfect example.

Also, the childish bells and the groaning were perfect stimuli to start the brain freaking out..and now my ear drums hurt...(not to self, don't turn sub on full while listening to song..)

Very interesting my friend, 5/5.

~TheWisestMagi~

Rig responds:

The infrasound was created with a free "horror" VST called Gargoyle, check it out.
Thanks for the support, I made this quite by accident. I was playing around with Gargoyle and I hit a really low note and I was like "woah....this freaks me out". So I built a song around it! :D

Euphoric

I would definately classify this under the new rising genre of "euporic" for it is an unbelievable uplifting, light dance mix, happy portrayed unconditionally trhoughout the song, rather then just pure concentrated energy like a regular dance song.

I also thoroughly enjoy the quickbuild at 2:27, definately added some extra flavor to the song ^^.

However, the vocals of "The Spring..Of...Eternal...YOUTH" seemed a bit odd to me, maybe something else about eternal youth, more philosophic like "True Eternal Youth" or something along those lines woulda been awesome, of course they may of been corny...but no more then any vocals in techno songs = P.

Sincerely,
~TheWisestMagi~

P.S. Euphoric music is one of my own favorite styles, hope to put out that type of song this winter...This is a great example of it, thank you, I will undoubtably use it for reference ^^.

Psybot responds:

I have never heard of that kind of genre b4, but then i am not so sure about any music genre my songs are.
i have heard countless time ppl who said something like: " This song would have had better rating if it where in...." and such.

But anyway, about the vocals. i am still very new to vocals, i will take all the advise ppl give me and try my best after their advise.

so you can congratulate yourself with the fact that you where the first person to give me an advise in vocals =P

Thx for your review, im glad you liked the song =)

Meaningless warfare?

I finally have been given enough inspiration to come back = ). This song was completely phenominal, took a battle scene to a new level to me, especially in such a short song >=O. (I LOVE THE PERCUSSION IN THIS SONG!). The parts where the strings are involved in give you such an understanding of great victory coming with great loss to me...almost a reflection of the why the battle is taking place during the heat of the battle itself. (I LOVE THE PERCUSSION IN THIS SONG!).

Also, you added the perfect amount of zest and zeal to the song without making it confusing sounding...sounds more like a bravehearted fight then a confused swinging of axes and swords to me...(I LOVE THE PERCUSSION IN THIS SONG!).

Also, I can't help but to feel that this is the closest feeling from a classical song to a metal song I've ever felt, gives you that same ROCKIN! feeling at points, I think this has an imidiate link to the awesomely done percussion. (I LOVE THE PERCUSSION IN THIS SONG!). This really adds some adreneline to the song without making it completely hectic..very nice indeed..plus, it's not getting old at all as I listen too it, no repetitive sound to it...which is a VERY nice quality if this is to be a general battle music.

Story Time: First we see men lined up, weapons at arms, a leader shouting orders at them, their adreneline and fear becoming uncontainable as it almost becomes visible...then, as a calm quickly sweeps over them, the next thing they know they are silently rushing up a rocky wooded hill straight toward the jaws of death itself. (As the strings cut back in) The jaws quickly return to life and charge headfirst back into the attackers...all is chaos for but a moment..until it is clear that each man, with each owns soul is fighting another real human being, whose soul may not be much farther away, but as of now, they are mortal enemies upon contact, bent on killing the other no matter what...This is taking place all across the hazardous battlefeild, and as the scene fades away, only we can see, that there will be no victor in this battle...

Hope I still had it in me to write a story ; ). (I LOVE THE PERCUSSION IN THIS SONG!). Also, it seems like I haven't emphasized something enough in this review...oh yeah! The percussion completely owns..

5/5 I've still been watching (downloading) and enjoying your songs, don't worry ^^.

MaestroRage responds:

The first thing i'm getting from this review is that you seem to enjoy a certain aspect of this song... but you've done such an incredibly good job mingling it with the review that I can't seem to point out exactly what it is...

I think you should know there's no woodwinds in this song, so you're wrong >:(!!

But seriously though, i'm glad you liked the percussion, it is my most diverse, most powerful percussion layers! Easily 70% of the song was spent with percussion and the heavy brass and strings. The melody itself, no more then 2 hours.

It's funny you should say that the percussion makes you think of metal, for i've been studying metal/industrial/DnB style percussion for some while. I think it was worth the effort as you have heard. Metal is also one of my favorite genres overall. Especially Power Metal, some people hate it, I don't see why. It's awesome, melodic, greatness. But thats besides the point.

As for your image, you have the idea right on the dot :D! Meaningless, savage, passionate fighting. Without restraint, without thinking of the other, even losing the ability to love and protect one's own comrades. Victory will be had, even if the swords used are made of ally bones.

I'm glad you listen to the pieces Wisest :). You still write well, thank you for the review, i'm glad you liked it!

MMD, Sculpter of Emotions

I am very glad you came back to bless us with another of your pieces, it is always a pleasure to listen to them. And yes, to me, in the classical genre, you are the master of emotion, MaestroRage/Sorrow is master of world building, and..well..I'm still waiting to come up with more catagories in my head of classical music for others to fulfill..

Anyway..as we enter this beautiful sentiment, we hear a reverbed, echoing piano, spilling out it's heart for us...It is then reassured by the voices in the strings and percussion, and becomes more confident in it's melody..and as the beat drops out, the piano once again spills out emotion beyond what was believed as possible..
Now, at 1:40 this voice grows in confidence, and even rage, and as the anger (strings) build up within it the voice seems ready to burst...until...with a burst of consolement, the piano realizes it's faults, and as it moves on with more confidence then ever, what it thought was it's anger (strings) turn out not to just be anger, but a companion of life..At the end of the song, we here a release of what piano was keeping stored up inside, finally reaching true peace..and as it drifts away..we will remember.

Very nice composition you have here, I'm glad you haven't lost that musical talent ;). Once again..I REALLY like the intro to this song ^^, so much emotion.

5/5, 10/10, flawless in it's form and movement..thanks for submitting again!

~TheWisestMagi~

MilkMan-Dan responds:

Well... Sculpter of Emotions... that quite the title. I thank you kindly for it.

I always love the visions people get from listening to my work. It's really inspiring. Hehe no I didn't lose my talent after all this time.

I look forward to listening to your work.

Thanks again.

oh my god...

DUDE, this IS so beautiful..but enough with the caps, it takes away from my listening experience = ).

The song itself: This is a nice electro-deviation off of classical music, but still remains very classical at heart..The synth is SO beautiful, and the pads are wonderful to accompany the piano..I especially like when the synth takes a more primary role in the song.

So beautiful, I hope you don't mind if I try my hand at story telling again? ^^

"The Promise" The promise we don't know, the meaning of it however is abundantly clear throughout the song, and is an incredible sentiment..
A promise from an adventurer to a women that he will never leave her and always be there for her through the best AND the worst of times maybe? A promise from a farmboy to an old woman to come back everyday till the end even..we don't know, but it is a caring, heartfelt promise which has unbreakable bonds keeping it from ever being broken..unfogettable at heart...even if simple..

..This is so beautiful I could cry out of an unexplainable emotion when cannot be portrayed through words nearly as well as it is being portrayed through the song..so to know how I feel..just listen to the song = ).

Sincerely,
~TheWisestMagi~

P.S. I want to hear more of these from you! ^^

F-777 responds:

Thank you. Im glad you enjoyed this piece.

Refreshing!

YES! More Helix-type Industrial! I've been needing some new stuff = P. Got most of your stuff on my i-pod, but most of it was getting old after you know 50 listens..(Except Archetype).

Anyway, for this song. I really like how you brought in the beginning of the song..I always have trouble with beginnings..Anyway, I really like the way you distorted and reverb all of your sounds, Although at some points i think the fuzzy, distorted sound was a little overwhelming...Also..the vocals you get are always SO amazing..It's rediculous how you incorporate real quotes into your songs.
Woah song just restarted, so again I would like so way how much the first instrumental part ROCKS. Keep up this rediculously awesome style of industrial...it's amazing man, the way you reverb everything is just so far above my head..You may be the most SKILLED artist on Newgrounds..

Any 5/5, 10/10..Awesome man, keep up the work.

P.S. Speaking of work, you catching any breaks lately on your long hours? Or is this song just the accumulation of a little bit of freetime every week. If not..I'm sure you'll catch a break SOMETIME...
Happy Trails,
~TheWisestMagi~

Helix6 responds:

Thank you. I am still working a lot. I work about 60 hours weekly, plus have 2 cars, a home, friends, family, and a girlfriend to maintain. I also have to get in some partying too. So music squeezes in when I have a chance. I know! I need to make more time.
