Best

This is the best in the week's top if you ask me. Well made, I like it a lot.

I thought maybe I'd like some nice tribal percussion instruments in your part at 2:30ish, but I'm not so sure now after hearing where you go with it. This makes for an easier, more relaxing transition. Well done.

Ha.

In general your music themes and melodies are great. The leads and bass synths are well made, although not perfect. But really your main problem to me is your work with the drum beats. Both of these top to songs just have a straight pounding bass (although the other is on the upbeat sure, but still). If you had more of a breakbeat style some of your music would almost be reminescent of PX9. I would just suggest experimenting with cymbals and snares and things, probably with a song you've already made. Just keep adding things until it just sounds bad. Then take some out until it sounds just right.

Love the intro though.

Unrl responds:

hahaha okay mate, thanks for the review.. but I kinda dont want to go drum n' bass style, i'm sticking with 8bit Raves

Poetry

Both the song and the poem that is, together, are true poetry.

That poem..I love the cadence to it, goes perfectly with the song...it took me a minute (as I was reading it when the song opened) to realize that what I was singing was not the melody :).

I think it is.

This is very good overall, I cannot wait to listen to future music from you, when you get a bit more expirimental that is to say :).

My only points of criticism are the very things that I struggle with:
1)Some transitions are a tad rough (3:20). I see how you tried to smooth it out, but the low string (cello? Bass?) seemed to pop out a bit too much on it's first note.

2) You could still find higher quality soundfonts :P, but that is not a criticism so much as a suggestion.

I like the celestia at the end by the way.

I'll be listening,

Trance

I would say dance, but there are a few things in it that take it out of the dance genre and over into the trance genre to me. Alas, just one man's opinion.

You have a great melody here, as always, but it's a few other things that make this song for me. Around the 1 minute mark is the first of these parts, it has that dramatic synth filter buildup and even a slowdown towards the end of it. The slowdown is particularly clever because within it there are increasingly quick countermelody rhythms completely contrasting from the slowing time of the lead synth.

Once again, good job.

Nice

Once I get more iTunes cash up I'll be sure to buy this thing, great music and support of fellow NGers!? Power to the people.

Great variety here too, good jub guys. Some of my favorite NG electronic artists here, I wouldn't expect anything less.

PS HELIX!

You didn't lie

This sounds sooo much like it's straight out of a megaman game, but I'll believe you =P..

I wish I knew how to get/create 8 bit sounds :D.

Anyway great job, you just need to go back in time and you could be a lead composer for CAPCOM. Sweet, keep it up...woah nicely looped.

Percussion

While all around this isn't my favorite of your works, the percussion work that starts at 0:32 makes me happy. Also the chimes.

It is weird to hear such a percussive groove in a song like this (for the rest of the song).

Great song at any rate, it is an overall nice piece of work. I think you need to write another song for a story though rather than a game from time to time though :), I enjoy those to such a great extent...they are so epic.

The story and song give me an image similar to "These Angels of War"...YEAH I can remember that far back when it comes to music, melodies, and most importantly the imagery/general feel behind the song. The difference is this song seems a tad more mellow. The people perhaps more rigid in showing emotion...and not such a bustling kingdom.

Keep it up Selcuk, I like hearing from you,

MaestroRage responds:

you know, I fully agree with you man. I want to write a song for the story, I have a few last projects I need to get finished and i'll start working again to tell a story, as was the original dream.

And wow X_x. You can remember THAT far back?! It makes me feel a little warm inside, you really have been there for all this time haven't you? Thanks for that.

Thank you for the review, and ongoing support sir, means a lot to me. I'm glad you liked it!

Wait a second..

So is nyran coming back? Cause right in the middle of that first beta it was like BAM no more nyran, and then the site shut down...I was terribly confusel'd.

Anywho, great song, I love that flute O_o. But even more I think I like the orchestra, I've always been a whore for a good orchestra part.

Oh my goodness...all of the other parts come in so niceles without overplaying/distracting from the flute and cello...I believe the correct describing word here would be beauty, but I think I'll use sexy instead.
Great loop too!
When does this game re-beta? Or come out? Or something where I can see your music incorporated into a game. I have a feeling I would like this game just to walk around in. Also, Is barley feilds and such still in the game? ;P.

Back to the music...I really do love this song...it speaks, and just relaxes me, forces a deep sigh out of me. And best of all, makes me feel like lying in a feild, under a tree, simply looking at the clouds.

Thanks again, 11/10

Coolio.

Darkskies + electric guitar + moar drums (break drum included)+ distonance + epic = Martyr's Scorn.

I think that's about right, although you have taken some of your existing melodies and made them a little more complex, and, in many cases changed the soundfont itself - although not so much the instrumentation?

As epic as ever my friend.

Great story too, if you simply replaced a few of the words (such as "home, "sheild, "kill") it could describe most people's lives =P.

Except yours, in which case the kill can stay...?

Still here,

COoOol.

First thing I'd like to say is: That ending sounded A LOT like ode to joy :).
Variation on the choir part.

Anyway, this reminds me of the music from runescape the game (even though I haven't played it in several years) - but I think that is due to your brass sound. I think you could find a more high quality sample for it...or a more suitable one for the song...Finding the right sound is the most frustrating part for me - ESPECIALLY brass, which is why I simply don't use it...they haven't really mastered the rendering of brass intruments it seems.

Also, it seems as though you are using the choir that comes with the program too...I know it can be frustrating, but finding the right sounds makes alot of difference- although it happened to work for this song :)

Still, it made your song sound more video gamey rather than epic...It's harder to portray emotions as crystal clear this way.

I can throw a few soundfonts your way if you like - although my main source of finding more seems to have vanished (more on that some other time).

Anyway, my favorite part of the song is, hands down, the piano part. I LOVE the intro to the song, I felt that it was wonderfully written.

All in all, GREAT song, but depending on what you were really aiming for, some higher quality soundfonts may have been a good thing =).

LacrimosaMuse responds:

hey thanks for the review, the ending is actually supposed to be a variation of ode to joy (read the description for Limbo for the background of the combination) i have been looking for some better samples that are preferably cheap. this song isnt actually supposed to sound too epic (you wait till the second movement, the Dies Irae) more than soft and somewhat sad. im trying to get some higher quality sound engines and as soon as i do, my pieces will be transferred over
